NC Quick Pass unpaid toll text scam
Updated October 23, 2026
The text people are getting
NC Quick Pass Reminder: You have an outstanding toll.Your toll account balance is outstanding. If you fail to pay by March 15 […]
As reported by Better Business Bureau (shared by a North Carolina consumer), March 2025.
How to tell it's a scam
- It asks for payment. NC Quick Pass says it will never request payment by text.
- It isn't from 696277. Real NC Quick Pass texts come only from that short code. A text from a regular 10-digit number, an email address, or a number from another country isn't from NC Quick Pass.
- The link isn't ncquickpass.com. Real texts only link to the official site. Look-alike addresses are a giveaway.
- It threatens penalties or legal action. NC Quick Pass says it doesn't threaten legal action in texts.
What NC Quick Pass actually does
North Carolina's attorney general and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority warned about these texts in March 2025. They said real NC Quick Pass texts come only from 696277, link only to ncquickpass.com, never ask for payment, and never threaten legal action. If you owe a toll, it will show up when you sign in to your account on the official site.
